AMD Ryzen 9000 release date: When are the new Us coming out?

Here are the release dates for AMD's new Zen 5 Us, including the Ryzen 9 9950X and 9900X, plus the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X.

After initially announcing that the AMD Ryzen 9000 release date would be at the end of July, AMD has now backtracked and announced two new separate release dates in August for its forthcoming Zen 5 Us. The company says that some of the first new chips off the production line didn't meet its quality checks, and it's now delaying the release "out of an abundance of caution."

Four new best gaming U crown were originally scheduled to come out on July 31, but will now be coming out on the new release dates that we've listed below.

The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X release date is Thursday, August 8, 2024. This U will have six cores based on the new Zen 5 architecture, a maximum boost clock of 5.4GHz, and a base clock of 3.9GHz.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X release date is Thursday, August 8, 2024. This processor will be equipped with eight of AMD's Zen 5 cores, and will have the ability to boost its clock speed to up to 5.5GHz, with a 3.8GHz base clock

The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X release date is Thursday, August 15, 2024. This 12-core U will be able to boost to up to 5.6GHz, with a 4.4GHz base clock, and it comes with 64MB of L3 cache.

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X release date is Thursday, August 15, 2024. Sitting at the top of AMD's new range in this initial launch, this 16-core U will be able to boost to up to 5.7GHz.

The delayed retail availability of the new Us is explained by Jack Huynh, senior VP and GM of computing and graphics at AMD, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), which has been shared by the official AMD Ryzen X .

"During final checks, we found the initial production units that were shipped to our channel partners did not meet our full quality expectations," explains Huynh. "Out of an abundance of caution and to maintain the highest quality experiences for every Ryzen , we are working with our channel partners to replace the initial production units with fresh units." Huynh added that AMD prides itself "in providing a high quality experience for every Ryzen ," and apologized for the delay.

We did wonder if there was a problem, as we've been regularly asking AMD for updates on when review samples will be available for us to test, and were still being told there was no news this week. While it's a little annoying that we'll have to wait a bit longer, we completely respect AMD's decision here. We would much rather the Us work properly when they come out, with a smooth launch, than have to battle with teething issues.
