Grimdark co-op FPS Warhammer 40k Darktide's first new class is the Arbites

The first Warhammer 40k Darktide DLC is the Adeptus Arbites, adding a companion class to the co-op FPS game alongside a progression rework.

The first new class for grimdark FPS Warhammer 40k Darktide has been announced, and it arrives in June alongside a big progression and onboarding rework for the chaotic co-op shooter. Announced as part of the Warhammer Skulls event, the Darktide Arbites class strides into battle with a cybernetically enhanced best friend and has the ability to shatter the very will of your opponents. Ahead of its arrival, a special event featuring some fan-favorite returning cosmetics is about to kick off.

The new Arbites class is the first playable addition to Darktide weapons that mix defense with ranged attacks.

You'll be able to make use of the redesigned talent system to take advantage of your choice of more than 80 nodes, or select from the three distinct styles available in the branching talent trees. Arbites are capable of weakening enemy effectiveness and morale through a combination of suppressive fire, powerful shouts, and the Nuncio Aquila, an anti-gravity platform that buries your foes in a wave of imperial propaganda. There are six voices to choose from, and you'll be able to unlock special cosmetics to spruce up your Cyber-Mastiff companion.

On the same day that the Arbites DLC releases, there'll also be a free Darktide update designed to overhaul the Warhammer 40k game's narrative experience for new players, offer better onboarding, and improve difficulty progression. There's a new curated mission path to introduce key story beats (that veteran players will be given the option to tackle if they wish). Progress is now tied to completing specific missions, rewarding skillful play and mastery of the systems over a simple grind for playtime. Finally, all currently available missions in the rotation will be made available at all difficulty levels, giving you much greater variety at any given moment.

Before that, however, a special event begins today, Thursday May 22, to celebrate the Skulls showcase. Nurgle's hordes are stirring, and you'll encounter the Lord of Decay's totems in missions. Leave them there and they'll buff nearby foes, but destroy them and you'll summon in more Chaos Spawn that must be dealt with. During the celebration, you'll also find special decorations in the Mourningstar, along with returning cosmetics for the Magistratum Enforcers, Steel Legion, Death Korps of Krieg, and Elysian Drop Troopers.
