First launched in 2023, Everspace 2 is precisely what I want from a space game. In the likes of Starfield and No Man's Sky, getting into ship combat feels like a frustrating distraction from the rest of the game. In Everspace 2, it's precisely why I'm there – Rockfish Games mixes exciting, dynamic action and exploration with ample loot to help put together that perfect build in true Diablo fashion. The interstellar RPG has continued to evolve since launch, and is about to get a lot bigger with the addition of its next expansion.
Without giving too much away, players who've finished the main story of RPG in 2025, introducing four new star systems packed with enemies, weapons, and loot, of which Aethon is one.
An ancient threat has awoken. Mysterious attacks are devastating settlements in Cluster 34, causing massive disruption to the area and threatening the uneasy peace between humankind and the reptilian Okkar. As things rapidly escalate, you'll be able to take warp gates to the four new locations, which also include the Okkar homeworlds. Wrath of the Ancients promises to be a larger, more substantial offering than the first DLC, Titan, which focused on smaller-scale, repeatable mini-adventures.
Of course, it wouldn't be Everspace 2 without a whole wealth of weapons and equipment to outfit your ship for action, so expect plenty of that. There's also a new ship that Rockfish says "changes the game." Look forward to additional secrets and side quests to discover, including plenty throughout the existing systems across Cluster 34 – along with lots of dangerous new foes that will be standing in your way at every turn, of course.
There's no set date quite yet, although the team is aiming for a spring release. "Our community keeps asking when they can finally explore Aethon, and the answer is soon," Rockfish CEO Michael Schade says of the expansion. "Over the coming months, we'll be sharing all kinds of reveals for Wrath of the Ancients on our social channels and streams. Stay tuned, space pilots."
