Last Epoch is ready to fight for the ARPG crown as it dates Season 2 launch

The Last Epoch Season 2 launch date is set for the Tombs of the Erased update, as developer EHG prepares to challenge Diablo 4 and PoE 2.

Despite a strong showing from Blizzard's Diablo 4 DLC Vessel of Hatred and a promising first swing by Grinding Gear Games with the early access launch of Path of Exile 2, it was Last Epoch that claimed the spot as my favorite ARPG of 2024. Indeed, as we wait on news of the next PoE 2 update and D4 Season 7 proves robust but unadventurous, I've seen increasingly more people ing me in casting their gaze back to Last Epoch. Now, Eleventh Hour Games confirms when its major Season 2 upgrade is set to arrive.

As good as Path of Exile 2 is, its arrival has helped to highlight some of the giant strides EHG made with RPGs, being fantastically versatile and powerful yet remaining remarkably easy to use even for a casual player, and you can keep your loot tidy with its generously sized, fully customizable stash.

Numbers may have plummeted of late, but that's to be expected; indeed, it's the typical cycle of most ARPGs, with players often having a tendency to rotate between games as seasons come and go. Game director Judd Cobler is confident the game is "far from dead." The real proof there is likely to come when its next big update arrives. Season 2 now has a name, 'Tombs of the Erased,' and a date, Wednesday April 2.

The next season of Last Epoch is shaping up to be a pretty serious overhaul – expect large upgrades to the endgame Monolith of Fate system, improvements to dungeons, challenging new champion enemies, and more endgame boss fights. Mysterious antagonist the Weaver is growing in strength, and that means new 'Woven Echoes' to tackle along with a special Weaver faction tree that can augment and enhance your Monolith to customize your endgame progression.

The Sentinel class is getting a hefty rework, but you can expect changes across all the Last Epoch classes as well. EHG has also detailed several more quality-of-life improvements. New waypoints make it easier to access the two faction hubs, The Bazaar and The Observatory. Controller play has been improved, with a focus on handling targeting differently depending on the skill you're using to better suit its intended purpose. Overall, there's a whole lot to look forward to – and there's not too much longer to wait.
