When it comes to might and magic, role-playing games tend to dominate. Your Dragon Ages and World of Warcrafts, have massive universes that you sink into as some intrepid warrior or mage. Legacy: Steel and Sorcery, from ex-Blizzard developers, challenges that with a fantastical spin on the extraction shooter, and it finally has a firm launch date.
The devs behind fantasy game goes in a different direction to Azeroth, though, providing a more streamlined experience with rolling targets through a deadly and unpredictable landscape.
Once you've designed your character, you set out on quests for loot and other prizes, the goal being to bring it all back to base without dying. It's the kind of loop you see in extraction shooters. But the multiplayer game requires vigilance to succeed, since other players are often searching for the same prizes.

Where any given mission takes you is uncertain. The gameplay trailer shows forestry and dungeons in the realm Mithrigarde, the latter distinctly more menacing. But that just means you need an appropriately sized to axe to cut through whatever stands in your way.
The wizard and paladin are already on the slate for future updates, adding to the existing roster of mages, ogres, rogues, and more. This is the kind of foundation that could grow in all manner of ways, similar to Monster Hunter where the baseline remains the captivating quest structure.
Legacy: Steel and Sorcery arrives on Steam Early Access February 12, 2025 for $24.99/€23.99/£19.99. You can wishlist the game and learn more about it here.
