Strategy hit that looks like Command and Conquer with mechs gets big new edition

Part strategy sim, part mech game, and part autobattler, the revered Mechabellum will soon be free to try, and has a new special edition.

Take a step back and forget for a second it's not an RTS, and Mechabellum looks like classic Command and Conquer, reimagined with giant, missile-and-laser-equipped robots. Hundreds of units. Explosions everywhere. Total chaos. Gorgeous and grim in equal measure, Mechabellum is spiritually reminiscent of erstwhile hits like Total Annihilation and BattleTech, but plays like a modern autobattler. Boasting great scores, if you haven't played it yet, there's a completely new edition available now, and even a free weekend on the horizon.

Launched back in September, mech games generally, and partly because it feels like an aesthetic homage to PC's golden age, stands apart.
