In Minecraft, even the smallest of changes can have a lasting impact. Whether it's a new redstone system that upends the mechanics, or a rework to the humble pig, each time I boot up my main server I'm met with something entirely new to experiment with. Today is no different, as Mojang introduces a new Minecraft update that completely changes how leashes work – and offers big creative opportunities.
With just four pieces of string and a slimeball, the world of Minecraft mob with a lead and take it to your home base for use on farms, to help build resources, or even to just keep them as a pet. Now, however, Mojang has completely overhauled leads with snapshot 25w16a.
For starters, you can now leash multiple mobs together in the sandbox game. Let's say you find a band of horses and you want to bring each one back to your burgeoning farm. You can now tether them to you in one line, saving you multiple trips. You can even tether a group of mobs together but leave yourself out of the chain – you just need to crouch while leashing. There are some restrictions to this new feature, however. You can still only leash baby mobs one at a time, and other players can't be leashed into a group at all.
Oh, and if you leash one too many mobs together, don't worry. All you need is a set of sheers to break tethered lines, with all the others remaining intact. Keep in mind that you can't use these sheers on another player's leash lines, though.

Multiple tethers are all well and good, but you can also tie any leashable mob to boats, chest boats, or even fences. This means you can suspend a boat under a happy ghast like a hot air balloon and bring a friend along with you (whether that friend is a mob or strongbox is entirely up to you).
It's a game-changing feature, as you easily transport mobs and items wherever you might need them – if you need to airlift a horse up a mountain or move a pig across the map, you can.
Mojang has made Minecraft's new leashing mechanics available now. You just need to opt in to test the latest Java Edition snapshot, 25w16a.
