Bethesda games and modding – the two go hand in hand. We've seen some pretty astounding mod projects arise over the years, from Skyblivion to Fallout London. Right up there is Tamriel Rebuilt, which has been expanding the world of The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind with new regions based on the game's lore. It's already a colossal mod, and it's just launched its biggest expansion yet.
Titled Grasping Fortune, this new addition to Tamriel Rebuilt is a major step towards the project's overall goal of making the entire region of RPG, only the island of Vvardenfell is explorable, but this project fills in the gaps of Morrowind's map, pushing the playable space outwards towards its borders with Skyrim and Cyrodiil. Grasping Fortune now adds an enormous new area that stretches south towards the realm of Black Marsh, and that includes Narsis, the capital city of Morrowind's House Hlaalu.
According to the Tamriel Rebuilt team, this metropolis – which features over 200 bespoke interiors as well as its sprawling exterior – is "a contender for the largest fully realized, custom-made city in an Elder Scrolls game ever" and is certainly the biggest individual settlement the modders have created so far.
Aside from Narsis, there are plenty of other locations that Elder Scrolls lore-heads may recognize. There are the Hlaalu towns of Hlerynhul, Othmura, Sadrathim, and Shipal-Sharai. The harsh, canyon-filled Shipal-Shin region on the border between Black Marsh and Cyrodiil has been recreated. You can explore the "twin fortress towns" of Ald Iuval and Ald Marak. It's remarkable just how many locations have been crammed in here, and all of them plucked straight from Bethesda's exceptional universe building.

It's not just new overworld environments that Tamriel Rebuilt is creating – there's loads of playable content as well. In total, Grasping Fortune adds new creatures to fight, 140 dungeons, 270 questlines, and over 2,500 NPCs.
All of this doesn't come easily or quickly through – Tamriel Rebuilt says its team of volunteers has been working on the content within Grasping Fortune since 2018. That's seven years of toil. If I was wearing one, I would take my hat off to all of them – it's an incredible achievement.
