New horror shooter mixing Resident Evil and Battlefield 1 finally hits Steam

Trench Tales is an apocalyptic horror-action shooter set in a WW1-inspired world. After months of testing, it’s releasing in early access.

I've always ired the mood of Battlefield 1. It's a strangely horrifying shooter, especially for a mainstream release. Death is quick and easy, the horizon is lined with fire and explosions, your shoes are caked with mud. It's dirty, grungy, and unheroic. Indie game Trench Tales pulls on that tradition capably. It's a third-person, action-horror game set in an alternate, haunted WW1 and it launches on Steam in early access very soon.

Trench Tales' feature list is extensive, all the more impressive for it being developed by best WW2 games, like Sniper Elite or Brothers in Arms.

It also impresses visually. Its dark trenches, blasted urban wastes, and fiery battlefields are dark and strange. The enemies, soldiers with gas masks fused to their rotting flesh, are more than little unnerving. But the supernatural elements of Trench Tales are not just for show. Your wandering soldier can heal his own wounds, slow time, and see enemies through walls. Exactly why he has these powers and why he wanders these war-blasted lands are mysteries left for playing the game itself.

You can buy Trench Tales on Steam Early Access starting May 6, 2025.
